Full pad-wrap protection
Every piece of furniture is individually wrapped in heavy quilted blankets in your home, then only unwrapped once placed in its final position. Far fewer chips and scratches than any standard remover delivers.
Mark Ratcliffe Moving & Storage offers a complete range of removals services across Eastbourne, Sussex, the UK and overseas. From a single piece of furniture to a four-bedroom international relocation, every job we take on is handled by our directly-employed crews — uniformed, BAR-trained and using the same pad-wrap method that has kept our customers’ furniture intact for over forty years. Use this page as your map to every service we run, then click through to the detail page that fits your move.
The core of our business is home removals across East and West Sussex. Whether you’re moving across Eastbourne or out to Brighton, Hastings, Worthing or Horsham, you’ll get the same survey-quoted, fixed-price service. Two-person crews for flats and small terraces, three- and four-person crews for family homes, and we routinely cover the longer routes out to Surrey, Kent and London on a single load day.
Our home town. Local crews, local depot, local knowledge of the steep streets and the seafront parking suspensions.
Smaller loads, single rooms, partial moves and one-off pieces — uniformed crew, proper materials, fixed price.
From Hove terraces to Kemp Town flats — we know the parking-permit zones and the hill streets that need a smaller van.
Old Town twittens and the East Hill — we routinely shuttle a smaller van where the lorry cannot fit.
Bungalow downsizing and seafront flats. Most Worthing moves are completed within a single day.
The full list of towns and villages across Sussex, Surrey and Kent that we serve as standard.
Packing is the single biggest determinant of whether things arrive intact. We offer four ways to handle it: full pack, fragile-only, materials supplied to you, or buy materials by the box. Add the unpack-on-arrival option and you can be living from your new home the day we leave.
Our pad-wrap method — the standard our BAR-trained packers use on every job.
We pack absolutely everything. Two-day pack for a 3-bed home is typical.
Live from your new home the day we leave. Boxes flat-packed, cardboard removed.
Removal-grade boxes, tape, bubble and blankets — order by email for collect or delivery.
Some items need more than a strong back and a pad-wrap. For pianos, antiques, art, designer interiors and the kind of household where insurance values run to six figures, we offer a specialist track. Different crew, different van fit-out, different paperwork.
Upright, baby grand, full grand. Skid trolleys, climate-aware vans, proper insurance.
Climate-stable transit, archival tissue, bespoke crating where the piece warrants it.
Designer furniture and high-end interiors — uniformed crew, full inventory, condition report.
ISPM-15 timber crates for international shipment of paintings, sculptures and clocks.
Not every move is a family relocation. We run dedicated services for offices that need to move outside trading hours, for students moving in and out of halls each term, and for executors clearing a property in probate. Each has its own logistics and price model.
Out-of-hours moves, labelled-and-mapped desks, IT-aware handling.
Hall-to-hall, hall-to-home, multi-stop — small loads at student-friendly prices.
Probate-aware, charity-routed where possible, certified disposal documentation.
We’ve been moving households overseas since the early 1990s and are members of the British Association of Removers Overseas Group, the Furniture Industry Ombudsman International section and the IMA. For everything outside your moving day we run our own steel-strong-room self storage at the Lower Dicker depot.
Worldwide door-to-door with our overseas-group partners. Full export packing.
Weekly groupage services to France, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Germany and the Low Countries.
Specialist UK-to-Thailand service with our own Bangkok partner depot.
Prestige steel strong rooms at Lower Dicker. Daily access, climate-stable.

The same name on the lorry as the name on the paperwork. Mark personally surveys every overseas job and every white-glove relocation. Started 1982. Still here.
Most customers don’t book just one service in isolation. The common combinations follow the move’s shape. A typical local Eastbourne move combines the man-and-van service (for a smaller home) or full house removals (for a 3-bed+) with packing materials and, often, unpacking at the new property. A long-distance move adds storage if the chain timing isn’t perfect. An overseas move adds international shipping, custom crates for anything fragile, and our partner-agent destination service in the destination country.
Confirm your move date first, even provisionally. Then book the removal — that’s the longest-lead-time service and the one that anchors everything else. Once that’s in the diary, decide on packing (full-service or self-pack with materials), unpacking, storage if needed, and any specialist items (piano, antiques, art) that need separate handling. The 20% deposit covers the removal itself; packing and unpacking can be added later without affecting the removal booking.
For small jobs — a single item, a student move, a delivery from auction — the man-and-van service is usually all you need. No survey required, hourly billing, two-person crew available within a week. For these jobs there’s no benefit to adding packing or unpacking services; you’re paying for the lift and the lorry, nothing more.
Email office@markratcliffemoving.co.uk, call 01323 848 008, or use the online quote form. For homes larger than two bedrooms we always recommend a free survey — we’ll come and walk through the property and email you a fixed-price quote within 24 hours.
