Removals to Dubai from the UK are the UAE work we are asked about most, and they tend to split neatly into two kinds of move. One is the professional heading for a tower flat in Dubai Marina, JBR, Downtown or Business Bay, usually on a contract with a fixed start date and often with an employer paying. The other is the family taking a villa in Arabian Ranches, the Springs or the Meadows, with children starting at a British curriculum school and a garden that suddenly needs its furniture. The shipping is the same for both. What happens in the last few hundred metres is completely different, and that is where a Dubai move is won or lost.
The high-rise districts take the largest share of our Dubai deliveries. Dubai Marina and JBR sit along the coast at the southern end of the city, a dense run of residential towers popular with single professionals and couples. Downtown Dubai and Business Bay cluster around the Burj Khalifa and the canal, close to the offices of DIFC, the financial centre where many of our finance clients end up working. Palm Jumeirah mixes apartment buildings along its trunk with large villas on the fronds, and brings its own access arrangements.
Families more often look inland. Arabian Ranches, the Springs and the Meadows are gated, master-planned villa communities with pools, parks and schools nearby, and they have been home to British households for a long time. A four-bedroom Sussex house fits far more naturally into a Springs townhouse or a Ranches villa than into a Marina two-bed, which is why the volume we ship to these communities is usually larger.
A third group arrives through a free zone. If your employer sits in JAFZA by the port, Dubai Internet City or Dubai Media City, the company may already have arranged your accommodation and your visa, and the delivery window is often tight. In that case we work with the HR or relocation team as well as with you, so the container, the visa and the keys all arrive in the right order.
No Dubai tower lets a removal crew simply turn up. Building management expects a move-in permit, normally issued against your tenancy contract or title deed, and the service lift has to be booked for the delivery slot; our destination agent books it at least 48 hours ahead, which is what the Marina and Downtown buildings require. Many towers also set fixed moving hours and a loading bay the vehicle must use, and some ask for a refundable deposit against damage to common areas. None of it is difficult, but a missing permit is the single most common reason a Dubai delivery gets turned away at the barrier.
Villa communities are gentler. Access is easier than in the high-rise districts, driveways are wide and there is rarely a lift to worry about. What the gated communities do want is notice: the vehicle needs a gate pass, and community management may want the paperwork before the day. We give our agent your plot details and tenancy information early, so the lorry is expected rather than questioned.
The climate matters too. From roughly June to September, daytime temperatures in Dubai routinely pass forty degrees, so the crews start early and the container is packed with moisture-absorbent dunnage to protect wood, leather and electronics during the voyage and the unload.
Every container into Dubai lands at Jebel Ali, at the south-western edge of the city, and the customs entry is lodged there by our destination agent. The rule that governs timing is simple: Dubai Customs will not release a household shipment until you hold a residence visa with your Emirates ID issued. An entry permit on arrival is not enough. For most employer-sponsored moves the visa comes through in the first few weeks, which lines up well with a sea transit, but where it slips we hold the container in a bonded warehouse at Jebel Ali and clear it when your documents are ready.
Once the visa is in hand and the inventory is clean, clearance usually takes three to seven working days. The inventory is where Dubai moves need care. We walk every room at the survey and flag anything on the UAE restricted list — pork products, controlled medicines that are legal in Britain, drones, e-cigarettes, and books or media that could be deemed sensitive. Alcohol is the one people ask about most; the honest advice is to leave it out, or declare it and talk it through with us before anything is packed. Household goods you have owned for more than six months generally come in duty-free for residents.
Sea freight from Felixstowe to Jebel Ali takes 4–6 weeks, routed through the Suez Canal and the Arabian Sea. Add 1–2 weeks for customs clearance and delivery to your tower or villa. A sole-use 20ft or 40ft container goes on the first suitable sailing; a shared LCL shipment, which suits a Marina one-bed or a part-load, adds 2–4 weeks while the container is consolidated. Because so many Dubai moves are tied to a job start, the usual answer is a split shipment. A small air consignment — clothes, a laptop, kitchen basics and work papers — flies from Heathrow or Stansted into Dubai International and reaches you in 7–14 days door to door. The rest follows by sea, timed so the container arrives around the point your residence visa and Emirates ID are issued.

Packing is done for the Gulf rather than for a drive down the A22. Furniture goes into export packing and crating, mirrors, glass tables and artwork into boxes from our bespoke crate workshop, and a piano travels in the container with our piano removal crews adding extra dunnage for the humidity. If you would rather do nothing yourself, our full export packing service covers every room; if you prefer to pack the books and clothes, we supply double-wall export cartons and wrap beforehand. When the Dubai lease starts after your UK completion, we keep everything in secure storage before your container ships.
